Quote of the Day – Continuous Personal Growth

Today’s quote regarding the need for continuous personal growth comes from American journalist Sydney Harris:

“A winner knows how much he still has to learn, even when he is considered an expert by others; a loser wants to be considered an expert by others before he has learned enough to know how little he knows.”

It is common for us all to rest on our achievements.  After all, we’ve worked hard for them, right?  We may even feel we’ve earned the right to take a break from all this “goal setting stuff”.

But therein lies the trap.  Yes, as you achieve your personal goals and performance benchmarks, take a few moments and give yourself a pat on the back … well done!  You cannot stay in that congratulatory state for for very long, however, or you risk becoming stagnant.

As Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven® Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? so perfectly sums it up … “The biggest enemy of tomorrow’s success is today’s success.”  Quite simply, if you are not moving forward you’re backsliding, because the world is constantly changing and evolving.  We must always be looking for the next challenge to master.

The winners in life are humble enough to realize that they will always be growing, always be learning, and always be on the path toward their full potential.  That fact, more than anything else, is what makes them the select few.

So, decide today to become one of those “select few”.  Stay on the path of continuous personal growth.  Stay hungry, and stay focused on the road ahead.  Commit yourself to incremental daily progress toward the achievement of your most valued goals.

You’ll be amazed at where you are a year from now …
